the structure of qec note-taking method
The QEC (Question-Evidence-Conclusion) method structures your notes around questions. Instead of using keywords or statements as headers, think of each main section as a question. This approach guides your notes by prompting you to provide supporting evidence and summarize your conclusions.
In this Notion adaptation, you can use toggles to hide answers, making it easy to test yourself. This active recall technique enhances memory retention and deepens your understanding.
Step 1: Create a New Template
Begin by creating a new notebook template. Click the arrow on the blue button labeled +New, then select +Template.Name your new notebook template.
Step 2: Add a Button Inside the Page
Insert a button by typing /button, click on Add action, and select Insert blocks. Within this button, create three columns by typing /3 columns.
Step 3: Add Toggle within a Button
Within this button, create toggle heading by typing /toggle heading 2! Also make sure ‘Insert Blocks’ is set above button instead of below button.
Step 4: Add a Button Within the Toggle
Open up the toggle and add a new button witin it by typing /button.
Now, we are going to configure the nested button. Open it up, click on Add action, and select Insert blocks. Also make sure ‘Insert Blocks’ is set above button instead of below button.
Step 5: Add a Toggle Within the Nested Button
Within this nested button, create toggle heading by typing /toggle list! Feel free to add a background colour to this toggle.
The title of each toggle list acts as a placeholder for your question, while the space within the toggle is where you can add your notes (evidence). One great advantage of this method is that when you review your notes, you can first see the question, take time to recall the answer, and think through it before opening the toggle to reveal your notes!
Step 6: Test it Out
And you’re all set! This QEC template not only improves your organization but also boosts your active recall through the process I hope you find this method helpful and effective for your note-taking!
