Cornell Inspired Note
What is Cornell Note:
The Cornell method is a note-taking strategy developed by education professor Walter Pauk. It consists of two main columns: the left side for cues/questions and the right side for detailed notes, with a summary area at the bottom.
In Notion, it is difficult to align these two sides effectively, which can be frustrating. But fear not! I'll guide you through a creative twist on the Cornell note-taking method using Notion's button feature for better organization. So without further of do, let’s begin!
Step 1: Create a New Template
Begin by creating a new notebook template. Click the arrow on the blue button labeled +New, then select +Template.Name your new notebook template.
Step 2: Add a Title Placeholder
Use /heading 1 to create a placeholder for your note title. You can also customize this title block with a background color to distinguish it further.
Step 3: Adding Buttons for Notes
Insert a button by typing /button, click on Add action, and select Insert blocks. Within this button, create three columns by typing /3 columns.
Step 4: Left Column Set-Up
In the left column, type /callout to create a callout block. This will be your placeholder for cue or questions.
Step 5: Middle Column Set-Up
Type /equation block to insert an equation block. Type in this command to create a vertical divider:
\color{color value or hex color code}\rule{5px}{150px}

You can refer to our blog post for a compilation of color values or use a color hex picker! Also, make sure to adjust the width of the middle column.
Step 6: Right Column Set-Up
In the right column, insert a bullet point list to indicate this area is for your notes.
Step 7: Change Insert Block Attribute
Switch Insert block to Above block to stack the note in the right order. Click Done once finished.
Step 8: Create a Summary Block
Insert /quote at the bottom of the page to establish a placeholder for your summary.
Stel 9: Test it Out
And you're all set!
This unique Cornell note template not only enhances your organization skills but also adds a creative touch to your note-taking process. By using this method, you can ensure that your notes are neatly categorized, easy to navigate, and visually appealing :)
